The Board has issued a statement following a Supreme Court of Queensland ruling.
The Optometry Board of Australia (the Board) acknowledges last month’s Supreme Court of Queensland ruling in favour of The Australian Society of Ophthalmologists (ASO) and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) on the question of their standing to challenge changes to the role and responsibilities of optometrists.
The Board’s revised Guidelines for use of scheduled medicines were released in March 2013.
The Board will defend its position when the ASO and RANZCO legal challenge is next before the courts and will make no further comment in the interim.
